solitary -fix jc 682

Per Julie’s and Ellen’s suggestions… I fixed this photo.  I do think their suggestions work better!

solitary 680
ISO 80; f/8; 1/250; 7.4mm; 7:52am (Canon SX10 on tripod)

It was a beautiful morning… only mid-70s  (as compared to 113F this afternoon).  I considered going for a bike ride, but at the last second I hopped in the car with Carl.  I’m always amazed at the unique photos that I find even when I go back to the same place again and again.  More on that later.

Anyway, this was one of the last photos that I took. Very shortly this model airplane runway is going to be very, very crowded.  But for this beautiful morning, Carl had it all to himself and I was able to set up my tripod on the runway.  I decided to go for the long shot to emphasize the solitary moment.   I’m glad Carl wore his orange t-shirt today.

Post processing : cropped; used Aperture New York Mag preset with some burning.

  1. I like the top photo bestter: it’s almost like a lesson on perspective. The eye follows the lines to the figure in orange and then up to the surprise of the plane.

  2. The revisions are perfect and the leading lines really work well. I love it!

  3. It’s a framer now! Nice corrections, Judi…..

  4. I like the feel of this a lot, wonderful take on the theme too. Julie’s suggestion is great and to me the horizon seems a bit tilted. Since many shots of mine are off I’ve become hyper- sensitive to horizon lines.

  5. Isn’t that cool! I like that you had an idea of the mood you wanted to created and made it work through composition. Did you think about cropping out the parking area and using a portrait orientation? I think it would help show the connection between man and plane….

    • Thanks, Julie. You are absolutely right that this crop is better choice. I still get what I want, but without the distractions. Although, I believe “Miss Prius” (prounounced like Priss) is sorry to be cut out of the picture. She likes to be seen (and not heard).

  6. You certainly captured the theme of Solitary. I can’t believe there are no other cars/people around!

  7. Brings back memories, I used to fly model planes a s ternager. Nice shot and yes it looks very solitary out there.

  8. What a clear, bright morning! Perfect for a morning flight. Nice!

  9. Awesome capture…I even feel alone! :)

  10. Great take on the theme.

  11. What a scene to go fly a plane in, must be akin to being up in the Wide Blue Yonder – in Reality.
