You might think this is an ordinary photo… but out here in the desert this is a rarity.  My friend Debbie has grown an approximate 3′ x 5′ patch of grass for her dogs to roll around in.  As you’ve seen from my desert golf photos, not even our golf courses have grass!

For this image I first cropped to show the best part of the lawn… doggies have a way of making some of the grass not so very green at all.  Then, using Aperture, I ran it through the auto enhance to adjust levels and add a bit of vibrancy. Then, I selectively burned grass blades. Finally, I tried something new; I  did a “round trip” out to PSE to add this “dreamy” frame; first blurring the edge and then spray painting black around a slimmer edge to give a grudge look.

  1. What a great and thoughtful idea to grow a patch of grass for the dogs. What a nice person! Your photo caught it in its bright green glory!

  2. Our grass doesn’t look that good either! Nicely processed.

  3. Hilarious…never thought about growing grass in the dessert for a dog…I bet that dog loves it!

  4. I don’t live in the desert and my lawn doesn’t look that good!

I like your edge treatment – very effective way to
give an ordinary item some added pizazz!
