The Friday Tip regarding simplicity was from earlier this month….  I took this photo soon after reading the tip but held onto it because it just didn’t seem that interesting.  But now that I’m getting better with Aperture, I thought I’d try a few post-processing techniques to pull out the potential.  So here’s what I did:

1) Crop — this building is the La Paz County Justice Court.  I had wanted the cleanest part of the building only.  Although I photographed just this part of the building, it still had nuisance details that needed to be eliminated.

2) Cropped again — decided that there was too much blue sky.

2) Adjusted the red hue to bring out the pink in the building.  Real building is more beige than coral.

3) Adjusted the overall levels.  This brightened the photo.

4)  Adjusted the shadows.. this gave more depth to the building.

5) Retouched a tiny speck that was bugging me.

  1. I love it! It’s exactly what I had in mind when I posted that Friday tip and you’ve nailed it. A beautiful image created from minimal elements.

  2. Realy nice–there’s an abstreact simnplicity, but there are still subtle tones and shade within the two colors and a certain dynamism to the angled shapes that keeps the eye intrigued.

  3. So nice, for something so simple the is a lot of movement, just from the line of the walls.

  4. A piece of art…love the simplicity plus the great contrast of colors…award winning in my opinion!

  5. This is one of my favorite photos of yours! It reminds me of a Southwest painting. Beautiful in its simplicity. Wonderful work and great eye!

  6. It’s amazing how intriguing an image of such simplicity can be. I love the color and lines in this and think you nailed the composition and processing perfectly.
