old 1679

This elderly man is clearing the sand from a fossil of a prehistoric predecessor to the alligator/crocodile.  My theme refers to the fossil. But as the man put it, he’s almost as old as the fossil.

As he explained the process of cleaning the fossil… I asked permission to take his picture.  Then I looked around and found an Ammonite pendant that I could afford.  His wife came out of the trailer, slowly, and dug for my change.  I am very impressed that this couple still come back year after year to do the Quartzsite shows.

Today is the last day of the show.  They intend to stay in Quartzsite for at least another week before they head back to Seligman, AZ… since it is still snowing up there.

portraiture 1673

Another portrait… She looks to be Native American as well with those long beautiful silver braids. This event is called a “Pow Wow” but it is not really an Native American event… but since many Native American’s make jewelry they are vendors. By the way, this event has been held annually since 1967.

red 1673

This year I decided to try more portraits during the QIA show, normally I focus on the the things that don’t move.  When I saw this woman, I knew I had my “red” theme. I meet a lot of people in my job at the bank and I’m ashamed to say that I don’t always remember them… but Sandra is easy to remember with her striking red hair.  You can see some of  her  wares in the background.  Besides the raw rock materials, there are a lot jewelry makers at this event.

# 3 above: I made the changes recommended by Jinxy…  so now what do you think?

hair 1670Last Sunday I went to the the “Big Tent RV” show in Quartzsite.  It was the 2nd day of the show and very crowded. Normally I wait until the 2nd weekend when it is less crowded but since I want to go to a different show next Saturday… well I decided to mix with the crowds.  Turns out, being crowded was the best thing since there were so many more demonstrations going on.  In this booth, he is showing how quickly this curling iron can change a head of hair.  I loved the blue lights in the booth… and the fact that this woman didn’t mind that I take her picture was a real bonus.

Today (1-26-13) I am feeling like I over processed the above photo.  What do you think?  Which do you like better?
